35th anniversary of the end of the Gulf War

In February and March 2026, Veterans Affairs Canada, along with our partners, and the Persian Gulf Veterans of Canada, will commemorate the 35th anniversary of Operation Friction and the End of the Gulf War with events in Halifax and Ottawa.

More than 4,000 Canadians served in the Persian Gulf region in 1990–91 as part of an international coalition that aimed to remove the invading forces of Iraq from Kuwait. This was the first conflict where Canadian women played an active combat role.
