The 10 Field Battery Cenotaph was erected by the 10th St. Catharines Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery. It was dedicated on December 6, 1964, to the members of the Royal Canadian Artillery and their ancestral artillery unit who died during service. December 6 was the 25th anniversary of the battery's entry into the war.
Lt.-Gen. Guy Simonds, CB, CBE, DSO, CD, unveiled the cenotaph. He was commander of the 1st Division of which the 10th Battery was part of when the battery landed in Sicily in 1943. The nine foot memorial was dedicated by Reverend Deane Johnson, who was the first padre of the Royal Canadian Artillery of the 1st Canadian Division when it was mobilized in September 1939.
The ceremony was part of a national reunion organized by the 10th St. Catharines Field Battery Association. The reunion committee prepared an anniversary souvenir booklet to help pay for the cenotaph which cost $1,000. There is an honour roll listing fourteen soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War and inscribed on the two sides are the battles the battery participated in.
The four smaller stones were dedicated on Sunday, October 18, 1981 and cost $1,448.
