Sandy Cove Acres is a retirement community which boasts a large population of Veterans from all services who served in the Second World War and Korean War. In 1982, the Sandy Cove Veterans Club started planning a memorial in honour of the men and women who paid with their lives, so that we could live in freedom.

A field gun, dating back to the First World War, was obtained at an auction and mounted and an inscribed stone was installed. The memorial was dedicated just before 11 November 1984.

Every year a Remembrance Day service is conducted, attended by approximately four hundred people including the Innisfil Pipe and Drum band, Police and Fire Services. Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Force Cadets and Navy League Cadets based at The Barrie Ontario Armoury, all send sizeable contingents led by their officers. One member from each of the Cadet Corps (Navy League excepted) lowers and raises the Flag during the last Post.
