As a former member of The Royal Ottawa Golf Club, Aylmer, Quebec; Lieutenant Sladen is commemorated on a plaque in the entrance to the club.

Capt John Russel Woods, of the Coldstream Guards, died of wounds Sept 16, 1916 from the Battle of the Somme during the Great War. His memorial window and plaque are at the All Saints Event Space in Ottawa. His death was mentioned in the Ottawa Citizen and in Canada Golf 1917. He was a graduate of Ashbury College. His father LCol J.W. Woods commanded the Governor General Foot Guards. -
