Additional information

Son of Nicola Hanna (Lebanon) and Deebe Jirady (Syria). Husband of Mary Laham, of Montréal, Québec. Father of Albert Abdalla John Nicholas Hanna.

He enlisted on December 19, 1916, in the 150th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On February 16, 1917, he was assigned to the 178th Battalion and sailed for Great Britain on March 3, arriving in England on the 15th. Upon his arrival, he was assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion until September 2, 1917, when he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion. On the 6th, he sailed from Folkestone for France and landed there the same day. He joined his new unit on the front lines on November 17. On April 12, 1918, he was slightly wounded during fighting in the Neuville-Vitasse sector, Pas-de-Calais. He was not evacuated. He was killed in action on August 27, 1918, during the Battle of Chérisy.

Wancourt is a village about 8 kilometres south-east of Arras. It is 2 kilometres south of the main road from Arras to Cambrai. The WANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY is a short distance south-east of the village just off the D 35 road.
