Private William George Roberts
The Haltonville Cenotaph contains two (2) names for a soldier with the last name "Roberts". They are William Roberts and Wesley Roberts, both listed as men of the 164th Infantry Battalion that was assembled in the Halton-Peel-Dufferin Counties at the beginning of the war. William Roberts was taken on strength into the 21st Battalion, where he was serving at the time of his death. Extensive research has shown that there was no person known as Wesley Roberts, dead or alive, and that the inscription was an engraving error on the cenotaph at the time of construction. Details are provided on the web site of the Milton Historical Society (http://www.miltonhistoricalsociety.ca/roberts-error/).
