Baptized Joseph-Alphonse Labrie. Son of Damase Labrie and Marie Garon, of St-Valérien-de-Rimouski and of Rimouski, Bas St-Laurent, Québec. He had declared that he was born on the 25th when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 57th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was assigned to Company A of the 41st Battalion on October 8, 1915. He sailed for Great Britain on the 18th and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 28th with the first reinforcement contingent. On April 20, 1916, he was assigned to the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion and crossed over to France on June 6 of that year. On the 23rd, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and went to the front lines on July 10. From February 14 to March 12, 1917, he was seconded to the 172nd Mining Company of the Royal Engineers. Upon returning to his unit, he went back into combat on June 25, 1918; for his bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Military Medal (MM), as published in *The London Gazette*, No. 30962, October 21, 1918. He was killed in action on August 27, 1918, during a fierce assault on enemy trenches at Chérisy, Pas-de-Calais.
