Baptized Joseph-Antoine-Charles-Lionel Giroux. Son of Auguste Giroux and Eugénie l’Heureux, of Montréal (Saint-Charles), Québec. He stated being born in 1897 when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 57th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he embarked from Montreal, Quebec, for Great Britain on June 16, 1915, and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 28th. On October 13, he was assigned to the 41st Battalion and on November 1 to the 22nd Battalion. On the 2nd, he crossed the English Channel and landed at Rouelles, Haute-Marne, France. On the 8th, he joined his unit on the front lines in the Ypres Salient region of Belgium. He was killed in action there on May 21, 1916, in the craters of Saint-Éloi.
