The following are extracts from the war diary of the 5th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops:
"1-5-17 . Capt. B.R. POOLE, C.A.V.C., reported for duty this unit. . .
2-5-17 . Capt. B.R. POOLE sent to Detachment Headquarters, ARRAS. 3-5-17 . 6.15 p.m. Our Billets in ARRAS were shelled until 9 p.m. Capt. B.R. POOLE, C.A.V.C., KILLED and 4 Other Ranks wounded. . .
His death was also recorded on 9.5.17 in the diary of No.2 Canadian Veterinary Hospital, Shorncliffe: "Capt B.R. Poole CAVC killed in action 3-5-17"
