Rejected by the RCAF, he hiked to Montreal and worked his way to England on a cattle boat and joined the RAF, He flew a Lockeed Hudson aircraft with #224 Squadron of RAF Costal Command and was credited with sinking a German submarine in the North Sea. He failed ot return from a patrol on August 7, 1940. -
