Photo of Roy Gayford
Roy Gayford was a close friend of my father, W/C Augustus Rodney Gibbes. He was to serve as Best Man at my parents wedding on 6th April 1940 but was sadly killed in action. My father was similarly lost in a bombing raid over Viterbo, Italy in 1943. The inscription on the rear of the photograph in my mother's hand states: "Roy Gayford Canadian Should have been Best Man 6 - 4 - 40 Killed in action." -
