His full name is Thomas William Eavis.

 

Son of Robert Eavis and Louisa Janes, of Ramea, Newfoundland. Husband of Selina Lawrence, of Isle aux Morts, Newfoundland. Father of Kenneth Robert, Newman Ward, Chesley Edwin, Clayton Charles and Melita Muriel Eavis.

His brother, Seaman Morgan Eavis, and his cousin, Seaman Alfred Eavis, also lost their lives when the schooner sank.

The Douglas Haig sailed from St. John's, Newfoundland, for Alicante, Spain, and was reported missing on February 1, 1917. Neither the ship nor the five crew members were seen again. No German warship has claimed to have sunk her.
