Corporal Augustus Ralph Greening was born in Bonavista Newfoundland. He enlisted for military service in Toronto on July 16th, 1915. According to his attestation he was born on July 28th, 1897. He provided his father's name as "next of kin" - Samson Greening of Badger Brook, Newfoundland. A. R. Greening indicated that he had prior military experience with the 109th Regiment in Toronto and that his pre-war occupation was as a driver. His brother was Sgt. Thomas Greening (No. 413042) who according to his military attestation was born on July 19th, 1893 in Bonavista Newfoundland. The attestation lists "Bonavista B." which may mean "Bonavista Bay". He listed Cooper Avenue in Toronto as his "next-of-kin" address on his attestation. His mother was Helen Greening at that address. Thomas Greening enlisted in Lindsay Ontario on March 15th, 1915. He indicated that he was a carpenter and that he had no prior military experience. -
