Photo of Charles William Sale
born and lived in London UK but was recruited in Montreal on 11th December 1916 into the 199th Battalion CEF. The 55th Irish Canadian Rangers. Died on 15th August 1917 with 24th Battalion at St Emile in the battle for Hill 70 Lens. Left behind in Kennington London UK his wife Ada Sale and 3 children under 12 years. Memorial
His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -

grandfathers closeup of face it appears from archives recently obtained, That C.W.Sale was in fact in the British Royal Navy during WW1 but jumped ship in Montreal Canada and joined the Canadian Army in 1916
