Photo Cenotaph, Madoc, Ontario, courtesy Tim Laye, Ontario War Memorials William John Taylor was born 1 March 1901, son of Frank E. Taylor and his wife Mary L. Coulter. His mother died on March 3rd. He enlisted in the 155th (Quinte) Battalion on 9 Dec. 1915 adding four years to his age. He arrived in Bramshott, England, on Oct. 28, 1916, and trained there until January 5, 1917. On March 6, 1917, he was assigned to the PPCLI in France and was sent with them to Vimy in preparation for the the battle for Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917. Young and inexperienced, he did not survive the first day. -

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens)
