Baptized Joseph-Nazaire-Omer Labelle. Son of Moïse Labelle and Delphine Charette, of Montréal, Québec. He stated being born the 25th when he enlisted.

Enlisted in the 69th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on April 17, 1916, and landed in Liverpool, England, on the 27th. Transferred to the 22nd Battalion on August 27, he crossed over to France on the 28th with the 69th Battalion to join his new unit on the front lines. From September 18 to 20, he was seconded to the 2nd Canadian Entrenchment Battalion before returning to the 22nd Battalion. Reported missing, he is presumed to have been killed in action on October 4, 1916, during the Battle of Courcelette in the assault on the Regina Trench. His body was never found.
