Burial/memorial information
Son of Euchariste Lacasse and Philomène Beaudoin. His father remarried to Marie-Louise Richard in Montréal in 1896 and the family then moved to l’Ascension, Montcalm County, Québec. Henri stated being born in Coleman, Wisconsin, when he enlisted; this is possible but his place of birth could not be verified in genealogy records.
He emigrated to Canada in 1895 and enlisted in the 233rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Edmonton, Alberta. On March 1, 1917, he was assigned to the 178th Battalion, and on the 3rd, he embarked for Great Britain, arriving in England on the 15th. Upon his arrival, he was assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion. On September 6, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and crossed over to France, where he landed on the 7th. From September 26 to October 14, he was awaiting assignment. On the 14th, he rejoined the 22nd Battalion, which was fighting in the Lens and Hill 70 sector in Pas-de-Calais. On January 27, 1918, in the Arras sector, he was gassed by a shell and evacuated to the rear until April 12, when he returned to his unit. He was killed instantly in action by machine-gun fire on August 28, 1918, during an assault from Wancourt toward Chérisy in the Battle of Chérisy, Pas-de-Calais. His body was never found.
