Pte Micks was the son of Alonzo R. and Ellen Jenny Micks, of Port Hope, Ontario. He was single and employed as a labourer. Pte Micks' father, Alonzo also served in the First World War, enlisting after his son on 27 July 1916 in Port Hope, Ontario.
