Baptized Joseph Oswall Edgar Dallaire. Son of Oswald Dallaire and marie Stérille Tremblay from l’Île-aux-Coudres, Charlevoix (Québec).

Enlisted in the Royal 22e Régiment, he embarked for Great Britain on 9 December 1939 and arrived in Greenock, Scotland, on 18 December. On 15 August 1943, he set sail again for the Mediterranean and landed in Sicily, Italy, on 27 August as part of Operation Husky, which had begun on 10 July 1943. He was killed in action on 14 September 1944 near Monte Marano by a German Tiger tank shell.
