Son of Peter Sylvester Cashen and Charlotte Frances Smith, of Ottawa, Ontario.

Peter served in England only for 22 months with the 77th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, service number 144354, without ever having seen combat.

He served in Canada, Great Britain, North Africa, Malta and Tunisia.

The Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery is on the road to Le Kef (Route P5), about 3 kilometres west of Medjez-el-Bab. Medjez-el-Bab lies on the banks of the River Medjerda 60 kilometres west of Tunis.
