Photo of Percy Bailey
Percy Bailey was born on 18 March 1915 to Martin and Mary Ann Bailey, who were living in the Parry Sound District of Ontario. In the 1921 Census, when Percy was six years old, the family list included the parents and ten children, who were living in Christie Township. On other records they were living in Sprucedale which is in the same general area, between Huntsville and Parry Sound, Ontario. When young Percy was about 15 years old his mother died. Then from 1930 to 1935 records show him working at various jobs, farming, road construction and then in the lumbers camps of Northern Ontario. When he voluntarily enlisted to serve his country on 5 June 1940, his military forms show that he was 25 years old and was married to his wife Ella and they were living in Toronto. His occupation was listed as bushman and truck driver. He also stated that he played the violin and that he liked to play hockey -
