Son of George Bonar and Jessie Mary Candlish Bonar Ness. Brother of Private David Ness who died on May 8, 1918 while serving with the 1st Bn Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and he is commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial.

Poznan (or Posen), which is the capital of the Province of the same name, is a cathedral city on the River Wanta. The POZNAN OLD GARRISON CEMETERY is on the northern side of the town.
