On May 17, 1939 Reilley and his friend Robert M. Buchanan left Montreal on a freighter, for a vacation in Britain. When war was declared they joined the RAF. Reilly was flying a Spitfire with #66 Squadron in the defence of Britain when he was shot down on October 17, 1940. -
