On April 11, 1943, the Edward B. Dudley was sailing with convoy HX-232 when it was torpedoed by U-615 at around 5:05 a.m.. At 5:15 a.m., she received her coup de grace and disintegrated due to the ammunition she was carrying. She sank south of Greenland in position 53°00'W/39°00'W. Her captain, 34 crew members and 27 defenders lost their lives.
