His full name is Aimé Robert Blanchard. Son of Arthur Blanchard and Emma Cashwapp, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Enlisted with the 18th Manitoba Reconnaissance Battalion in Winnipeg, Manitoba, transferred on 19 October 1941 to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, then, on the 25th, to the 1st Battalion, Winnipeg Grenadiers. He served in Manitoba and in Hong Kong with Force C. He had 166 days of service, including 57 overseas.
