On 8 March 1941, the Hindpool sailed from Pepel, Sierra Leone, Freetown, Sierra Leone, Oban, Scotland, Middlebrough, England, with convoy SL-67. The U-124 fired six torpedoes between 5:47 and 6:08 am and sank four ships, including the Hindpool, in position 20°51'N/20°32'W. The captain and 27 crew members lost their lives. Six sailors were rescued by the British destroyer HMS Faulknor (H62) and landed in Gibraltar on 16 March. Four other sailors were rescued by the SS Guido.
