His full name is Roney Henry Rowland. Son of William Burns Rowland Sr and Mary Florence Roney, of Durham, North Carolina, United States. Husband of Helen Hobbs Smith. Father of Henry Roney Rowland Jr and William Smith Rowland.

Enrolled with the Royal Regiment of Canada, he served in Ontario, was affected to the Coastal Defence and Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Nova Scotia, served with Force W in Newfoundland at C Troop 103rd Heavy Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, deployed on 15 August 1941 to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada, to camp Sussex in Sussex, New Brunswick, then in Hong Kong with Force C.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
