On 19 November 1917, the Jutland was en route from Bilbao, Spain, to Middlesbrough, England, when she was torpedoed by UC-79 18 nautical miles (21 miles/33 km) north-north-east of Ushant, Finistère, France, taking the lives of the 26 crew members and her captain, position 48°46'N/04°55'W.
