On 19 August 1915, the Arabic was en route from Liverpool, England, to New York with passengers when she was torpedoed by U-24 50 miles (80 km) south-west of Old Head of Kinsale, a lighthouse in County Cork, Ireland. She sank in less than 15 minutes, in position 50°50'N/08°32'W. 44 lives were lost.
