Additional information
On January 17, 1918, the Kingsdyke was torpedoed by UB-20 about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Cap Barfleur, Normandy, France. Her captain and fifteen crew members lost their lives. Six shipwrecked men were picked up on the 18th by the French Navy torpedo boat 308, which landed them the same day at Bassin Charles-X in Cherbourg, Normandy.
