Daughter of former Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Duncan Cameron Fraser and Bessie Grant (nee Graham) Fraser, of 120 Athebasca Street East, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Sister of Annie, Sarah, Alistair, James, George, and Harvey Fraser.

Her brother Lieutenant James Gibson Laurier Fraser, died while serving with the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). Her brother Alistair Fraser, served as Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia from 1952 to 1958.
