Son of John Martin Beck and Sarah Salome Gaetz, of Lunenberg, Nova Scotia. Husband of Sophia Elizabeth Eisenhauer, of Lunenberg. Father of Paul, Mary Henriette and Owen Raymond Beck. Owen served in the Canadian Army during the First World War, with the Nova Scotia Regiment, regimental number 3199569. He was discharged without having seen action.
The schooner Lucille M. Schnare was intercepted on August 20, 1918, 52 miles (84 km) off Cape Canso, south of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, by U-156 and scuttled by the German ship Triumph, with no loss of life.
