Second Lieutenant Steele homesteaded at Birch Creek, Saskatchewan.
Distinguished Service Order, London Gazette dated 17 December 1917 "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has done consistent good work in aerial fighting during eight months. On one occasion he brought down within our lines an enemy scout of the latest type, and landing alongside it, made the enemy pilot a prisoner before he could destroy his machine". Mentioned in despatches, awarded as per London Gazette dated 16 January 1918.
