Memorial
Flying Officer Richard W. Paget, 437 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, who came from Shelburne, Ontario, is memorialized on the back of a family tombstone in Shelburne Cemetery, Highway 10, Melancthon Township, just north of Shelburne, Ontario. F/O Paget was killed in action while piloting a Dakota transport aircraft that crashed about five miles south-east of Arnhem, The Netherlands, while engaged in air-dropping supplies to the British 1st Airborne Division. The crash is presumed to have been due to enemy action, as there was enemy anti-aircraft and small arms fire in the area at the time. Also killed in the crash were three other RCAF aircrewmen, as well as four air despatchers from the Royal Army Service Corps, British Army. (Image taken by Gregory J.
