His full name is Harold Sidney Bateman.
Son of Henry Charles (aka Harry) Bateman and Mary Skinner Hatcher, of Newfoundland. Henry Charles served in the First World War as a private in WO 329 Company, Royal Army Service Corps, British Army, regimental number M-286676. He fought in France. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Sidney died on September 5, 1945, at St. John General Hospital in St. John, New Brunswick, of encephalitis and pulmonary oedema after two days in hospital.
