Radio operator Lord was a former resident of St. Mary, Ontario and Petrolia, Ontario, he graduated from the Radio College of Canada in Toronto before joining Marconi International Marine in late November 1941 at the age of 18. After serving briefly on a British Ship, he was assigned to the SS Ramapo which held an American registration. Ian Lord is commemorated on a bronze plaque on the Cenotaph located in St. Marys, Ontario as well on the Petrolia War Memorial.
