Originally from Orono, Ontario.

Barnes arrived in Canada in 1913 with the British Home Child movement in 1923. The cause of death, which occurred at sea off Florida, is not specified. The headstone in Orono Cemetery, Durham, Ontario, lists W.C. Crossley (1880-1961), his wife Mary E. Henderson and John Barnes (1913-1942).
