Baptized Joseph-David-Aimé Bélanger. Son of Joseph-Moïse Bélanger and Wilhelmine Brunet-Chrétien (deceased in 1914), of Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, Bas-St-Laurent, Québec. His father remarried to Florida Lebel in 1915.

He served for three years with the 1st Regiment National Guard in Maine, USA. Seriously wounded in action at Méharicourt during the Battle of Amiens in France, he died the same day.
