He arrived in France on 15 September 1915 and took part in the First Battle of Ypres in Belgium, the Battles of Vierstraat, St-Éloi and Zillebeke, also in Belgium, and the Battle of the Somme in France. He was killed in action at Brickfields during the Battle of Courcelette for the capture of Regina Trench.

Memorial
His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens)
