Baptized Joseph Moïse Bertrand dit Durocher. Son of Moïse Bertrand dit Durocher-Desroches-Desrosiers and Maie Georgine Cardin dit Loiseau and served under the name Joseph Desrosiers. He married Marie Hélèna Lalancette on September 21, 1915, at St. Michael's Church in Yamaska, Quebec. He left for England the following month.

When he enlisted in the 57th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he stated that he was born on August 6, 1893, in Montreal, Quebec. Assigned to the 41st Battalion on October 13, 1915, he arrived in England on the 28th. Integrated into the 23rd Reserve Battalion on March 15, 1916, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on April 15 and sent to France on the 16th. He went to the front line on May 4. He was initially reported missing in action between September 14 and 18, 1916, during the Battle of Courcelette. On October 23 of that year, he was presumed killed in action on September 15, 1916.
