Son of Adolphe and Mary Lafrance, of Hull, Québec. Baptized Noé-Michel Lafrance. Son of Adolphe Lafrance and Mary Bastarache, of Ottawa, Ontario and Hull, Québec. He had declared his birth on March 22nd, 1892 at the time of his enlistment. One of four brothers who served overseas. They all survived the war. 

Enlisted in the 77th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he transferred to the 41st Battalion on an unspecified date, then was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on May 10, 1915. He sailed for Great Britain on October 23, 1915, and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 31st. Temporarily assigned to the 23rd Reserve Battalion from March 4 to 15, 1916, in Folkestone, he crossed the English Channel on March 17 and landed in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, France, that same day. On the 19th, he joined the 22nd at the front. In June, he fought at Zillebeke, Belgium, and in July at the Battle of the Somme. On October 4, 1916, he was reported missing in action and was later confirmed to have been killed in action at Courcelette, Somme, France. His body was never found.
