Son of Jean-Baptiste Legault and Alphonsine Moreau-dit-Duplessis, of Pointe-Gatineau, Outaouais, Québec.

He declared to be born on January 22nd, 1881 at the time of his enrolment and this corresponds to what is recorded in the 1901 census. However, he cannot be found in the Pointe-Gatineau records, or anywhere else.

The family was in Aldfield Township, Pontiac, at the time of the 1881 census and he was two months old.
