War Memorial
This is the War Memorial on which Hugh's name is commemorated at St. Mawgan, Cornwall where the Willyams family lived for many years. -
Inscription
Hugh, at almost 44 years of age, was already an experienced soldier when he enlisted on 22 September 1914 at Valcartier, having previously served in the Gordon Highlanders and The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. He came from a wealthy family of bankers but described himself as a boat builder on enlistment. -
Memorial
His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
