Lee Wood (standing backrow left) with friend Roy J. Merrill (seated left) of Maple Grove, New Brunswick. Photographer: M. Dudkin, 26, West St. Studios, Brighton, England. Lee Wood died in the Battle of Passchendale during the advance of November 6, 1917. His friend, Roy Merrill, said that they were crossing the muddy battlefield while under fire and he saw Lee go down in an explosion. After the attack, he returned to the site to try to find Lee, but his body could not be found. It is said that Lee Wood always carried with him on the battlefield a picture of his little sister Doris (born 1910). -
