  • Circumstances of Death Registers– "Died" (Accidental Injuries.) Whilst attending a baseball game North West of Marceuil, on the afternoon of 7th June, 1918, he was hit above the heart by a bullet fired from some unknown source. He was attended to by a medical officer but expired about five minutes later. A party of Lewis gunners were practicing at an adjacent range at the time. Court of Inquiry convened to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death is of the opinion that he was accidentally killed by a bullet, and that there is some connection between the firing at the range and the fatal accident, which occurred to Shoeing Smith Mills.
