VETERANS' CEMETERY (ESQUIMALT)

The Veterans' Cemetery National Historic Site is located adjacent to the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in the municipality of Esquimalt, British Columbia. On July 14, 1868 the cemetery was consecrated as a one acre Royal Navy plot. Today the site covers 2.2 acres with most of the land surrounding the cemetery owned by the Gorge Vale Golf Course. Presently the cemetery holds over 1700 graves of Canadian and Commonwealth naval and military personnel and their families. The Esquimalt Veterans' Cemetery is significant for its long history of providing a resting place for military dead.
