He was born in Kouchibouguac on 1 March, 1923, to Clifford and Evelyn Carter. He was conscripted on 22 February, 1942, and volunteered for active service on 24 April, 1943. Arthur arrived in the UK in December, 1943, and arrived in Italy in March, 1944, where he was posted to the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was killed in action near Pesaro, on the Adriatic coast of Italy, when the RCR engaged in battle with the soldiers of the German 1st Parachute Division.In October, 1945, the body of Private Arthur Gregory Carter, RCR, was removed from its battlefield grave and buried in grave F17 of the Ancona War Cemetery, Italy.
