Additional information
Baptized Jean Charles Iréné Comtois. Son of Emmanuel Comtois and Marie-Anne Lemay of Montréal, Quebec. Brother of a soldier who fought in Europe during the Second World War and survived.

Temporarily enlisted under the National Resources Mobilization Act of 1940 on 13 March 1942, he was assigned regimental number D-611559. After one month's training, on 9 May 1942, he was incorporated into the regular forces with regimental number D-129112 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. On 8 September 1943, he was transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. On 21 December 1943, he arrived in Great Britain. On 19 February 1944, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment and left for Italy on the 18th, arriving on 3 March 1944. He was killed in action on 14 September 1944 during an assault to capture San Martino. He was buried on the 17th in Pesaro before being exhumed and reburied on 31 May 1945 in Gradara cemetery.
