His full name was Joseph Alphonse René Laurent Langlois. He was the son of Alphonse (alias Albert) Langlois and Florida Gosselin of Victoriaville, Quebec.
He enlisted in the Fusiliers du St-Laurent, on February 15, 1943 was assigned to the 24th Reconnaissance Regiment of the Voltigeurs de Québec, with which he sailed for Great Britain on July 21, 1943, landing in Greenock, Scotland, on the 27th. On October 2, he was transferred to the 4th Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment. On the 27th, as part of Force M, he sailed for the Mediterranean and set foot on the Italian mainland on November 9. On December 26, he intentionally shot himself in the left foot, allegedly while cleaning his weapon. After a long hospital stay, he rejoined his regiment on May 1, 1944. He was killed in action on September 14, 1944, during an assault on Mount Marano while attempting to capture the Palazzo des Vergers, north of Marano. He was buried in Pesaro near the battlefield, in the regiment’s cemetery, grave number 10. Around October 30, 1944, his body was exhumed and reburied in Gradara.
