Location:

Durnbach is a village 16 kilometres east of Bad Tolz, a town 48 kilometres south of Munich. Durnbach War Cemetery is 3 kilometres north of the village Gmund am Tegernsee. Using the A8 from Munich, turn off at the junction Holzkirchen, taking the 318 road in the direction of Gmund am Tegernsee. At the crossroads with the 472, turn left in the direction of Miesbach. The cemetery is situated approximately 500 metres on the left from the 318/472 crossroads.

  • Photo of WILLIAM JOSEPH VALKENIER– William Courteaux was a Flight Sergeant, Wireless Air gunner. Service # R78640 1 st Kent Regiment, # 419 Squadron (Moose sqd) RCAF. He was flying in Wellington bomber # X3717 which was carrying 70 bundles of 30 lb incendiaries (bombs). It went down over Germany, hit by anti-aircraft fire, during an attack on Stuttgart. Born 1919 Date of Death 6/5/1942. Burial: Dumbach War Cemetery - Gmund am Tegernsee - Miesbacher Landkreis- Bavaria (Bayern). Germany Plot: 2.D.10. He was married with Beryl Edna Hogarth in Sutton - Surrey - England on 2 February 1942 at the Parish Church.
